It was raining cats and dogs and Mr. Midnight and Sir Winston were sitting in the bay window of the warm, comfortable living room, both staring at the rain drops trickling down the window pane. There was not a great deal to do.
Mr. Midnight – what do you think is the purpose of life?
What made you bring that subject up? I was admiring the way that wet stuff manages to slide down the window pane. There doesn´t seem to be any real purpose to it´s actions. It just goes wherever it wants to – usually downwards. 😉
Purrrhaps there isn´t any purrrpose to life.
You may be correct but I´m not sure. If there is a purpose to life then we should possibly not be sitting staring at the rain. Maybe we should try and find satisfaction in life and that´s our purpose.
Purrrhaps the real purrrpose to life is hidden in the word “purrrpose”. Living beings are meant to purrr. When we purrr, we are happy and therefore, living beings are supposed to purrr. 🙂
But only cats purr Mr Midnight.
Which goes to prove my point. Cats are usually very happy creatures and will therefore, purrr away. Other beings are often happy as well but they tend to not purr as much.
Because other beings can´t purr!
Which again, proves my point. We cats are aware of the purrrpose of life – to be happy by living in the moment and to experience life to the full.
I mean, just look at the humans. They are called “human beings” but they don´t exactly “be”, do they. They either live in the past or the future. Their title doesn´t really give them credit does it.
But some humans do try to be happy. They just haven´t mastered their purring yet.
Lots of humans seem to have difficulty getting into a state of “being happy”. They often require interfurrrence with which to reach a superficial state of happiness.
You mean their addictions to various drugs such as alcohol or whatever with which to reach a state of so-called happiness?
Precisely; and the fact that they sometimes need somebody to tell them that they are having fun. I think humans dub the term “entertainment” or having a purrrty.
Well there´s nothing wrong with attending a party Mr. Midnight. After all, you occasionally visit your mates down the road and you don´t get back home till late in the early hours.
Ah yes, but how often do I purrrty? I do not place too much emphasis on purrrtying in case I manipulate myself into believing I´m having a good time. It´s a lot of fun but when taken too extremes, it can interfere with ones judgement as to what is real fun and what is not. I call it interfurrrence.
And besides, I hate wearing those little bells around my neck just to try and prove that I´m in the in-crowd.
So your conclusion to my question is that the purpose of life is to be happy?
Well, not always to be happy. We must also experience difficult situations, such as not being fed for a couple of hours, otherwise we wouldn´t learn much in life and go on to develop. Life is always moving and in a state of change and development.
You´re definitely right on that one Mr Midnight. If we were always happy our world would be a terrible place. We would go through life as though living “on a high”.
Most modern humans seem to be detached from reality and sadly, seem to miss the point of their purrrpose.
They don´t seem to get their “purrr” from the word purrrpose right, but at least they have mastered the ending of the word.
Modern humans seem to love to “pose” in life. They appear to assume a particular character in the hope of impressing others.
How very boring. I´ve noticed that too. It´s much better to be original and true to oneself than to be something one is not.
Well there you go then. As far as modern humans go, they still have a lot to learn as regards their purrrpose in life.
As for me, I also have problems discovering my purrrpose. There doesn´t seem to be enough time to learn all the lessons of life.
And that´s possibly why it´s important to not waste ones precious time.
I suppose the purpose to life, if there is a purpose to life, will be different for everyone.
Look Mr. Midnight, it´s starting to brighten up a little. We can go out now and play in life’s kingdom. What real fun!
Playing gives life a purpose so lets get out there!
